19 October 2021

Successful Educational Tour organized by Sviluppumbria following the TTG Tourism Fair in Rimini: 10 international tour operators visited Umbria from 15 to 18 October

At the end of the TTG tourism fair in Rimini - where the Umbria Region participated with a 216 m2 stand with 27 regional tourism operators and 6 associations of municipalities - Sviluppumbria, the Umbria Region's Economic Development Agency, which managed the stand, organised an educational tour for 10 selected international tour operators interested in learning more about the extraordinary attractions of our region.

From 15 to 18 October, the tour operators, coming from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria and Norway, were welcomed to some of the most beautiful and evocative locations in Umbria, including Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, the Marmore Falls and some of the towns in the Valnerina, where they were able to enjoy the local food and wine.

“With this educational tour, we are finally welcoming qualified international tour operators back to our region to promote our territory and its excellence on foreign markets," said Michela Sciurpa, President of Sviluppumbria. "Today, more than ever, tourists want to experience more than just a holiday, they want to live a real-life experience and share a different perspective on the world with their friends. Umbria, in particular, lends itself very well to this new type of tourism and it is precisely this aspect, based on the quality of life, the human dimension, ancient but very much alive traditions, culture, art and history, that we have presented to the tour operators taking part in the initiative, with the aim of making the most of the many attractive factors that make our area unique, able to guarantee a unique experience".

In confirmation of this, the tour operators involved said they were impressed by the beauty of the Region, its unspoilt nature, the kindness of the people they met and its rhythms that are still on a human scale.

The Councillor for Tourism of the Municipality of Terni, Elena Proietti, expressed her satisfaction with the initiative, commenting, "This was a significant opportunity to introduce an international public to different local destinations, from the most to the least known, all of which can offer visitors memorable experiences. The opportunity for the tour operators involved to see our beautiful locations with their own eyes will allow us to promote the area in all its many aspects more effectively ".

“It was a real pleasure to welcome the international tour operators to our area," added the mayor of Ferentillo, Elisabetta Cascelli, "and to share with them some of the treasures of the Valnerina, which certainly contains many others just waiting to be fully exploited. This is undoubtedly an important step in the right direction taken together with the Umbria Region and Sviluppumbria".

The action has been financed by Action 8.7.1. of the Co-financing Fund for the tourism offer ERDF ROP 2014-2020, dedicated to supporting the tourism recovery of the areas affected by the 2016 earthquake.
