Sviluppumbria and the University of Perugia sign Framework Agreement

04 May 2021

The Framework Agreement for collaboration between the University of Perugia and Sviluppumbria Spa on innovation and technology transfer was signed during a press conference held at Palazzo Murena, home of the Rectorate.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors for security reasons related to the epidemiological emergency from coronavirus, was attended by Maurizio Oliviero, Chancellor of the University of Perugia, Michele Fioroni, Regional Councillor for Economic Development, Innovation, Digital and Simplification, Michela Sciurpa, President of Sviluppumbria Spa, and Professor Gabriele Cruciani, Delegate of the Rector for the Third Mission sector.

Sviluppumbria’s president said: “Innovation and technology transfer are key drivers of competitiveness of the production system and, in line with regional development priorities, represent a cornerstone of Sviluppumbria's renewed mission to serve businesses and the territory. With the signing of this agreement, these strategic issues are now at the centre of the collaboration, which I very much wanted, between the agency for economic development of the Umbria Region and the University of Perugia, to mutually benefit the worlds of business, research and public administration. Sviluppumbria strengthens its role as a facilitator of relationships to connect the technological expertise expressed by the University with the needs of businesses and other local public and private actors (business incubators, accelerators, start-ups, public-private laboratories) while pursuing the goal of boosting the competitiveness of the local production system and offering qualified work opportunities for young researchers in the area.”

With this agreement, Sviluppumbria and the University intend to establish a collaborative relationship aimed at launching joint third mission initiatives through the following actions:

a) Enhance the skills and know-how of the University's research through an annual program of cooperation aimed at the best exploitation of the circulation of knowledge for the use of the regional production system;

b) Launch a program of business scouting with a “user centred” approach (identification of business technological needs) also linked to the promotion of training initiatives, coordination of knowledge dissemination actions, stimulating the participation of those involved in innovation processes, with the aim of avoiding fragmentation and duplication of interventions with a view to synergy of available resources.

c) Support technology transfer, innovation and dissemination of skills and knowledge in the field of research and innovation with the aim of promoting the solution of economic, social and environmental problems affecting the region;

d) Promote and increase competitiveness among regional companies, through the use of sustainable research that strengthens the regional production system, activating synergies useful for participation in regional, national, EU and international programs;

e) Realize cooperation on highly technological issues that affect the economic system, for a positive impact on the territory both in terms of innovation in the sector and the creation of new innovative enterprises;

f) Collaborate in the implementation of activities carried out jointly and in synergy between the ILO and Third Mission offices of UNIPG and the Technology Transfer Operational Unit of Sviluppumbria Spa.
