Sviluppumbria for the internationalisation of SMEs

21 - 23 October 2019

The Internationalisation Area of Sviluppumbria, which hosts the Enterprise Europe Network in Umbria, took part in the Annual Conference of the Network organised in Helsinki by the European Commission and EASME from 21st to 23rd October during the European Presidency of Finland. Three days of intense work with 800 delegates from over 60 countries and representatives of European institutions, cooperating to face new challenges for the growth of SMEs in international markets.

In line with the Commission's '21-'27 guidelines and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the plenary sessions and working groups focused on the policies and role of enterprises in the areas of environmental sustainability, digitisation/digitalised single market and social innovation.

To strengthen the network to support the internationalization of Umbrian SMEs, during the Conference, Sviluppumbria’s delegation held bilateral meetings with the European-American Business Organization (USA), the London Chamber of Commerce, the EUPIC EU-Project Innovation Center (West and North China), Business Incubators Novi Sad (Serbia), APII Agence de Promotion de l'Industrie et de l'Innovation (Tunisia), Eurocamara , Italian Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, Conicet-Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Argentina) EU-Japan Centre, Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce (Israel), and Eurochile Fundacion Empresarial (Chile).

As a follow up, initiatives are also planned to inform the Umbrian SMEs of the opportunities coming from the free trade agreements, signed by the EU or under negotiation with third countries, starting from the very recent EPA-European Partnership Agreement signed with Japan, the largest agreement ever negotiated by the EU, which has established a free trade area equal to one third of all the value of trade worldwide.
