Franciscan Itineraries: 2019 Trends and Statistics

12 February 2020

The number of enthusiasts of Franciscan routes and slow tourism is increasing year after year. On Wednesday, in the Press Room of the Sacro Convento of Assisi, the official data on the pilgrim-walkers who stopped by the Basilica of St. Francis in 2019 and the statistics of Di qui passò Francesco and Piccola Accoglienza will be presented. The numbers to be presented by Brother Jorge Fernandez confirm once again that Umbria is among the most popular destinations in Italy. The Statio Peregrinorum, run by the Sacro Convento, collects and publishes the data concerning those who reach the Assisi on foot, by bicycle, on horseback or by handbike.

The meeting will be attended, among others, by those in charge the Statio Peregrinorum, Brother Paul and Brother Abelardo, the Custos of the Sacro Convento, Father Mauro Gambetti, the Bishop of Assisi, Mons. Domenico Sorrentino, the Mayor of Assisi Stefania Proietti, the Umbria Region’s Minister for Tourism, Paola Agabiti Urbani, and the Managing Director of Sviluppumbria, Mauro Agostini.

The meeting will be moderated by the Director of the Press Office of the Sacro Convento of Assisi, Father Enzo Fortunato.
