Bike in Umbria

For years, Sviluppumbria has been committed to the development, monitoring and exploitation of the cycle routes in our region. Umbria has a very varied landscape which makes it a paradise for cyclists, with hundreds of kilometers of panoramic roads with little traffic, ideal for racing bike enthusiasts, and a vast network of dirt roads which, added to the mule tracks and paths, are a true paradise for MTB rides.

The structural interventions carried out in recent years have enabled some strategic itineraries to be completed which are acknowledged today to be international level, such as the Cycleway Assisi-Spoleto-Norcia, which received the award as the most beautiful green cycleway  in Italy in 2015, or the inter-regional itinerary “Cycling in the Land of the Duke”. Further programmed investments in future years will enable numerous other long distance itineraries to be completed, with the objective of creating a proper regional bike network par excellence.

Added to all this is a large number of day rides of various levels of difficulty suitable not only for beginners or families with young children, but also for more expert and adventurous cyclists. The region has 30 itineraries for road bikes (with a total of over 1,600 km) and 22 for Mountain Bikes (over 600 km), complete with road book, elevation profile, map and GPS downloads.

The network of bike hotels and services which can be enjoyed throughout the territory, such as the e-bike sharing in Perugia and Terni, all help make Umbria a bike friendly territory.
