Umbria Aerospace Cluster: 300 business meetings for companies attending Paris Air Show in Le Bourget 2023
Perugia June 23, 2023 - More than 300 "business-to-business" meetings and the signing of important international contracts: the first balance of Umbria Aerospace Cluster's presence at the 54th International Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, the International Aeronautics and Space Exhibition underway in Paris until June 25, is positive.
At the stand built with the support of the Umbria Region and Sviluppumbria, the 17 Cluster companies participating in the event this year presented their services and technological excellence in the sector to international clients.
Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey and the U.S.: these are some of the countries with which Umbrian companies have activated contacts for commercial, technological and project collaborations.
The Le Bourget show, which takes place every two years, is confirmed as the world's largest event dedicated to the aerospace industry, representing a privileged meeting and convergence place for industry players.
The Umbrian Cluster's stand also received an institutional visit from Umbria Region President Donatella Tesei, Regional Councillor for Economic Development Michele Fioroni, Sviluppumbria's CEO Michela Sciurpa and the Mayor of Foligno Stefano Zuccarini, who, welcomed by Umbria Aerospace Cluster President Daniele Tonti, met with representatives of the companies present at the show, noting first-hand the usefulness and strategic value of this event.
"The Le Bourget Show," emphasizes Umbria Aerospace Cluster President Daniele Tonti, "represents a place of fundamental importance for companies in our region that operate in the aerospace and defence sector. With their innovative products and patents, the companies represented the capabilities and strong dynamism of the Cluster, which is also characterized by the great fellowship among its member companies. An aggregation that is becoming increasingly known and appreciated in international trade fairs, establishing itself as the symbol of a virtuous supply chain that expresses great value. I am particularly grateful to the Region and Sviluppumbria for their commitment and the full support they have provided since the beginning to the industrial system of our territory, which is characterized by realities of excellence endowed with extraordinary aeronautical and space skills, and cutting-edge technologies appreciated worldwide. This renewed synergy between the public and private sectors is essential to foster the growth and competitiveness of the sector."
That related to aerospace and defence is a highly strategic sector for the Umbrian industry, which, after the heavy crisis brought about by the pandemic, has been able to relaunch its centrality in the restart of our region and the country.
During the Le Bourget Air Show, several agreements were signed between Cluster companies and international clients, and collaboration and supply relationships were also consolidated with major Italian and global players.
Important negotiations were also initiated, laying the groundwork for future partnerships with key stakeholders in the industry.
Economic Development Councillor Michele Fioroni said: "Umbria took a leading role during the 54th edition of the Paris Airshow 2023, the world's largest event in the aerospace sector. The 17 companies that participated in the show were recognized at the country system level as extremely qualified. High was the level of expertise of our companies. This event was an important opportunity and a privileged place for industry players to meet and converge. A strategic moment for the regional economy, which is part of a series of actions aimed at strengthening the regional aerospace supply chain, constituted as a growing Cluster. A clear example of the high quality of the Made in Umbria product is represented by the Aermacchi M-346, an advanced next-generation flight trainer produced by the Leonardo Company, which includes several components of Umbrian origin. During the event several agreements were signed between our companies and important international customers. Further proof of our companies' exceptional ability to compete globally in a sector that continues to show very high growth potential."
"I express my deep satisfaction for the great success of Umbria Aerospace Custer and the 17 Umbrian companies present at the 54th International Paris Air Show in Le Bourget," said Sviluppumbria CEO Michela Sciurpa. "The Cluster's collective stand, created with the support of the Umbria Region and curated by Sviluppumbria in collaboration with Confindustria Umbria, was the canter of attention of the major international players in the Aeronautics and Space industry. An extraordinary showcase that was able to enhance the very high industrial skills that Umbria knows how to express in the aerospace sector by promoting the entire regional territory in a territorial marketing perspective. The international recognition of Umbria at Le Bourget is the result of a great teamwork that has seen a growing commitment of Sviluppumbria to support the internationalization of companies in a strategic sector of crucial importance for the competitiveness of our territory."
The total turnover of the Cluster, which has 38 members, is 550 million euros, of which 50 percent is direct export. The companies have about 3,500 direct employees, of which more than 10 percent are engaged in research and development. Companies that are members of the Cluster collectively have registered more than 110 patents.
