First LIFE 2021 calls published

The European Commission has launched the first calls for its Environment and Climate Action (LIFE) program for the period 2021-2027, with deadlines that vary depending on the call. The budget of the LIFE program is more than 580 M€ and will be managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

The new program will contribute to the transition to a sustainable economy, the improvement of environmental quality and the protection of biodiversity.

The main objectives of the LIFE program are:

• Contribute to the transition to a more sustainable, circular, energy efficient, renewable energy based, climate neutral and resilient economy.
• Protect, restore and enhance our environment.
• Halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity.
• Halt ecosystem degradation by managing and enhancing the Natura 2000 network, thereby promoting sustainable development.
• Encourage and support green ideas from large and small companies, NGOs, public authorities, citizen groups and universities, among others.
