“Olive Grove Area of Assisi-Spoleto" awarded as Historical Rural Landscape

28 February 2018

The official recognition with a diploma after the announcement attested and certified its value: the Olive Grove Area of Assisi-Spoleto  has been awarded as Historical Rural Landscape in a ceremony held on Thursday 22 February in Rome, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and now, with a dossier already presented, aims straight to recognition in the GIAHS Programme of FAO, as the Director-General of Mipaaf, Emilio Gatto, said. Gatto himself read the reasons for the registration in the Register:"This is the main olive-growing area of Umbria, it preserves a landscape where the relationship between olive-growing and history is particularly strong: historical villages, castles and religious buildings are immersed in olive groves covering the slopes, enriched by terraces, while in the flat part, monumental oaks delimit arable land.
