From wastewater to the production of cosmetic products: thanks to the work and happy intuition of a Terni start-up, this step seems short. This is a 'made in Umbria' project backed by the commitment of those who aim to build a 'green' supply chain able to establish itself on a national scale through the synergy between two companies in Terni: Poli4Life and Bio-Care.
Intuition. Sergio Laliscia, the company manager, illustrates the project: "In 2016, thanks to the support of the Umbria Region, we created Poli4Life Srl, a company specializing in the extraction of polyphenols from the vegetation water, a waste product of oil mills. These waters represent a waste to all intents and purposes, to be disposed of according to very specific legal criteria, but which we intended to transform into a second raw material. At our plant in Strada delle Campore, in Terni, we treat the 'vegetation' waters through a chemical and physical process based on natural components, extracting a concentrate with a high percentage of polyphenols".
What are polyphenols? "We are talking”, explains Laliscia “about substances with a very high antiradical power, they are naturally anti-inflammatory, so much so that they represent the natural antibiotic of olive trees. In the oil we consume every day a small part of it remains. The concentration in the water is much higher, which turns out to be a bit of our 'gold'.”
