2021 European prize for social innovation: Expertise for the future - Shaping a green and digital future.

The European Commission has launched the 2021 edition of the European Social Innovation Award aimed at supporting job creation and economic growth through the identification, development and strengthening of skills that will drive Europe’s green economy and digital future.

Launched in memory of social innovation pioneer Diogo Vasconcelos, the European Social Innovation Competition is a competition run by the European Commission, with support from EIC in all EU member states and Horizon Europe associated countries. Each year, the Commission awards three €50,000 prizes for the best socially innovative projects aimed at changing the world for the better. The theme for 2021 is ‘Skills for the Future - Shaping a Green and Digital Future’.

The prize is open to any legal entity (including natural persons or consortia of legal entities), with the exception of public administrations based in Member States or countries associated with Horizon Europe.

The European Commission is looking for social innovations at scale that will contribute to European job creation, growth and competitiveness by helping people, businesses and industries identify, develop and strengthen those skills to fuel the green and digital future of the European economy. The competition is open to early-stage ideas that address challenges related to transitioning to the future, including, but not limited to, identifying and mapping skills gaps, as well as development and training approaches that will help people retrain or upgrade their skills.

All solutions submitted must demonstrate consideration of environmental impact.
