Trasimeno bets on slow tourism

14 July 2020

Slow tourism is the focus of the two protocols of understanding to develop and promote the routes I sentieri del Perugino nelle terre del Marchese and the Via del Trasimeno. They wee signed by Giacomo Chiodini, on behalf of the grouping of Trasimeno municipaities, Mauro Agostini, managing director of Sviluppumbria, Michele Benemio, president of the Consortium URAT, a grouping of Trasimeno hotels, and restaurants, and five associations in the sector: "Camminare Guarisce", "L'Olivo e la Ginestra", "Il Riccio", "L'Anello del Fiume d'Oro" and "Tavernelle Cammina".

I sentieri del Perugino nelle terre del Marchese (the paths of Perugino in the lands of the Marquis) is an itinerary of about 100 km, divided into five stages of 20 km in the municipalities of Città della Pieve, Paciano, Panicale and Piegaro. You will discover at a walking pace the landscapes from which Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, drew inspiration for his paintings, and the lands dominated by Ascanio della Corgna, whose majestic palaces are still seen today. The project was promoted by Anci Umbria (www.sentieridelperugino.it).

The Via del Trasimeno (the Trasimeno way) is a loop around the lake within everyone's ability, about 160 km (or two hundred thousand steps) in seven stages that pass through all the most important villages of the territory. This walk has already won awards and has gained popularity as a walking destination (www.laviadeltrasimeno.org).

"Signing the protocols,” says Agostini, “confirms the fruitful synergy promoted and supported by Sviluppumbria with the municipalities, associations and tour operators of Umbria to develop slow tourism for the sustainable, widespread and balanced use of the Umbrian territory. Walking tourism offers a new source of income for tour operators and the opportunity to enhance our cultural (tangible and intangible) and natural heritage".
