Umbria is popular with the national and international press and major foreign newspapers have recently published several articles to recommend our region as a post-lockdown holiday destination.
British newspapers that have recommended our region include The Telegraph, The Daily Mail and The Guardian, which also included the Via di Francesco in a quiz about walking itineraries together with the more famous Camino di Santiago.
National press and TV have also dedicated specials on the possibilities of spending a holiday in Umbria in total safety and relaxation: IO Donna, the weekly magazine supplement of the Corriere della Sera, featured the Spoleto-Norcia railway, Linea Blu on Rai Uno and Sky tv have aired a long report on the Marmore Falls and the Valnerina.
A recent article in The Daily Mail, one of the most-read newspapers in the UK, with a circulation of 1.1 million, highlights the Via di Francesco, praising the beauty of the landscapes and views, the warm welcome and the delicious dishes served in the agriturismi along the way.
Sviluppumbria, on behalf of the Region, carries out ongoing activities with journalists to support the publication of articles like these, and promotes tourism in Umbria through the organisation and/or participation in workshops, b2b and b2c fairs, press tours, etc.
This is not the first time that the Daily Mail has written about our region. Last year the newspaper recounted the pleasures of a trip to the Orvieto area in the article "Umbria in autumn? Bellissima! Fewer people, lower prices - and that magical scenery at its glorious best", and in March, actress Gwyneth Paltrow wrote about her love for Italy and her romantic connection with Umbria.
The Green Heart of Italy is perceived as beautiful and safe.
On the umbriatourism.it portal there has been a surge in pageviews, especially seeking offers: packages, guided tours and tastings in wineries and oil mills. Pilgrims on the Via di Francesco have also returned in large numbers to ask for information and plan their upcoming departures. It is very important at this stage that the operators of Umbria are ready to publish proposals that are able to win the favour of tourists. People want to travel and Umbria has everything in order to welcome tourists in total safety.
