25 November 2022

Sport and Business: with Sviluppumbria, award-winning coach of the men's national volleyball team Ferdinando "Fefè" De Giorgi reveals the secrets of his world champion team's success in a day all about Umbria.

Behind the successes of world champion volleyball Italy is a "Made in Umbria” technical team. The secrets of this story were shared by the award-winning player and coach of the Italian men's national volleyball team Ferdinando "Fefè" De Giorgi, who visited our region on November 25 with a busy schedule of meetings promoted by Sviluppumbria.

In the morning, Fefè was the protagonist of the event The importance of team building for businesses promoted by the Umbria Region's Economic Development Agency at its headquarters in Foligno on the occasion of the Workshop organized by Confindustria Umbria on the theme 'Hacker Attacks, Cybersecurity and Team Building'. An appointment dedicated to transferring strategies from the field to the enterprise, from players to managers.

Innovation, trust in young people, belonging, work culture, respect for the team, clear and shared objectives. These are the elements of the winning formula with which Ferdinando De Giorgi built the strongest volleyball team in the world, an approach that the coach proposed during the workshop not only for winning in sports, but also for the growth and success of any business.

In the afternoon in Perugia, the coach was received together with his staff at Palazzo Donini by Umbria Region President Donatella Tesei in a meeting open to the press in the presence of Sviluppumbria CEO Michela Sciurpa, CONI Umbria President Domenico Ignozza and Fipav Umbria President Giuseppe Lomurno. The Italvolley coach's institutional visits ended at Perugia City Hall where De Giorgi was received by Mayor Andrea Romizi.

"Returning to Umbria today as world champions is the best way to retrace the historical roots of our success that started from this beautiful region twenty years ago” said coach Ferdinando De Giorgi, “a visit that also reflects a sincere recognition to a region where I was able to work for the first time as a coach together with a multidisciplinary team, a technical staff of collaborators-specialists that has not been divided since and that sees engaged together with me the pedagogue Giuliano Bergamaschi, the assistant coach Massimo Caponeri and the accompanying executive Vittorio Sacripanti. Thanks to the trust placed in us by the then president of Perugia Volleyball Claudio Sciurpa," added de Giorgi, "we were able to experiment in Umbria with a new way of coaching a team, authentically revolutionary for the time, capable of acting in synergy on the physical, technical and mental aspects of the players, achieving very important results over time, starting with the 2004-2005 championship that saw Perugia play in the championship final. Umbria has therefore marked an indispensable stage in my journey, which I am pleased to recall today together with President Tesei in the conviction that this region has all the requirements to be an authentic laboratory of innovation also in the field of sports."

"The story of Fefè de Giorgi, an award-winning volleyball champion who achieved his first successes as a coach in Umbria, shows that in Umbria it is possible to lay the foundations to set out to conquer the world," said Michela Sciurpa, CEO of Sviluppumbria. “I thank Fefè for accepting Sviluppumbria's invitation to participate this morning in the event The importance of team building for businesses promoted by the Agency at its headquarters in Foligno on the occasion of the Workshop organized by Confindustria Umbria on the theme 'Hacker Attacks, Cybersecurity and Team Building'. The approach that Fefè represented to companies puts the values aspect at the forefront and makes sharing and a sense of belonging the foundations of a team's success. His is a valuable lesson not only for companies but also for institutions that can find in sports both an important tool for inclusion and enhancement of young talents and an extraordinary driver of territorial promotion."
