SHARE: the experience of Umbria on cultural heritage presented in Sweden.

25 October 2018

Exchanging experiences and good practices among SHARE partners from different European regions, about cultural heritage management and presenting pilgrimage routes as a way to travel in a slow and sustainable way: these the main objectives of a two-days meeting held in the medieval town of Vadstena, Sweden on 22 and 23 October as part of the Interreg Europe SHARE project activities.

Partners from UK, Croatia, Sweden, Spain, Romania and Hungary met with LP Sviluppumbria and stakeholders coming from the same regions: Umbria was represented by the regional manager Carlo Cipiciani, Annalisa Cecchini and the assessore of the Municipality of Foligno, Giovanni Patriarchi. A political debate was held among the stakehoders coming from the partner regions on themes such as overtourism fragility of cultural heritage, investments, and, more in general, the value of EU cooperation, with the moderation of Andy Fryers, international expert on sustainability.

An important occasion to exchange good practices about Umbria and the city of Foligno and the other municipalities in the region,  with European peers. SHARE, a European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 project, is proof of the fundamental necessity of developing further inititiatives of interregional cooperation in order to strengthen a common European outlook’ – declared the Umbrian delegation. On 23 October, Chiara Dall’Aglio, Coordinator for Tourism and Promotion in Sviluppumbria, presented the experience of the St.Francis Way within a joint event organised with Green Pilgrimage, another Interreg Europe project that deals with pilgrimage routes and cultural heritage promotion. The event, supported by Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform expert Venelina Verbova, was the occasion to promote hiking and pilgrimage routes as a sustainable way to travel and to approach and visit our common cultural heritage. Participant to the 2 days meeting were also able to experience the Saint Bridget pilgrimage to Vadstena, the main pilgrimage destination in Scandinavia.
