A delegation of Italian journalists and representatives from the cycling world recently visited Umbria to experience firsthand the region’s natural, cultural, and culinary heritage through an itinerary focused on slow and sustainable tourism.
Participating in the tour were representatives of Bici Style, Sport24hIT, Agenda Viaggi, Agenzia Area, Radio 24 Centro Italia, Askanews, Vanity Fair, Il Fatto Quotidiano, L’Espresso and Il Venerdì de La Repubblica.
On 22 May the group took part in the forum “Il Futuro del Turismo è Lento” (The future of tourism is slow), an occasion to discuss new models of sustainable travel and the opportunities offered by cycling tourism. During the day, they also visited the historic center of Perugia, stopping at the Giuditta Brozzetti Museum, the Torre del Cassero, and the Church of San Michele Arcangelo.
The program then continued with a visit to Panicale and a panoramic view of Lake Trasimeno, followed by a formal dinner attended by representatives of the Umbria Region and the municipal administration of Panicale.
One of the tour’s key days was dedicated to the Upper Tiber Valley, explored by bicycle starting from San Giustino. The itinerary included visits to Bufalini Castle, the Republic of Cospaia, Città di Castello, and the Burri Collection – Former Tobacco Drying Sheds. The tour concluded in Montone with a tasting of extra virgin olive oil.
Meanwhile, TV host and presenter Federico Quaranta cycled through the area of Passignano sul Trasimeno, sharing his experience during a workshop dedicated to slow tourism.
The initiative was promoted and organized by Sviluppumbria, Regione Umbria, Camera di Commercio dell’Umbria and Sport e Salute with the aim of promoting slow travel routes and sustainable tourism experiences in the Umbria region.
