Umbria Aerospace Cluster participates with 17 companies at the International Paris Air Show-Le Bourget

Perugia, 7 June 2023 - Seventeen members of the Umbria Aerospace Cluster are taking part in the 54th International Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, the International Aeronautics and Space Exhibition that opens in Paris on 19 June. At the stand, realised with the support of the Umbria Region and Sviluppumbria, the Cluster companies, which operate in the aerospace and defence sector, will present their services and technological expertise in the sector to international customers. The Le Bourget show, which takes place every two years, is the world's largest event dedicated to the aerospace industry, and represents a privileged meeting and convergence point for operators in the sector.

The Umbria Aerospace Cluster's participation in Le Bourget was presented at a press conference attended by Regional Councillor for Economic Development Michele Fioroni, Sviluppumbria's CEO Michela Sciurpa, and the President of the Umbria Aerospace Cluster Daniele Tonti, as well as representatives of the companies that are members of the Cluster and will participate in the International Aerospace Show.

Founded in 2008 on the initiative of six companies, the Umbria Aerospace Cluster today has 38 members who have acquired a variety of skills in the design and production of finished mechanical engine and structural components, electromechanical and hydraulic actuation systems, equipment, integrated aerostructures, electronic and hydraulic launch and control systems, antennas, filters and active/passive telecommunication systems, production equipment and endurance, climatic and environmental testing systems. The Cluster's total turnover is EUR 550 million, 50% of which is direct export. The companies have about 3,500 direct employees, of whom more than 10% are engaged in research and development. The companies that are part of the Cluster together have registered over 110 patents.

Councillor Fioroni emphasised that 'once again this year, the Umbria Region is present at the Le Bourget Air Show represented by a group of companies that are considered excellences at an international level. This is a way to support a strategic sector for the regional economy, which is part of a series of differentiated actions aimed at strengthening the regional aerospace supply chain'. The councillor also added that "the Aerospace Cluster is growing and initiatives such as Le Bourget are a showcase and an essential opportunity to support this trend and become increasingly competitive in a sector that continues to show very high growth potential.

"With the return of the Umbria Aerospace Cluster to the International Paris Air Show, Sviluppumbria continues and strengthens its commitment to promoting Umbria's excellence in a strategic sector for our region such as aerospace," said Sviluppumbria's CEO Michela Sciurpa. "The financial and technical support provided by the Umbria Region through Sviluppumbria will enable 17 companies in the Cluster to be present at one of the main international fairs (the other is Farnborough, which is held every other year) with a collective stand, the result of intense public-private partnership work, thanks to which they will be able to directly represent their industrial skills to the major world players, thus supporting their competitiveness on global markets".

"The Le Bourget Show," emphasised the president of Umbria Aerospace Cluster Daniele Tonti, "represents an opportunity of enormous value to affirm the skills of the Cluster's enterprises in the aerospace market and to consolidate collaboration and supply relationships with major Italian and international players. This is the seventh year that Cluster companies are taking part with a presence that has been growing year by year. Ours,” he added, “is a region with extraordinary aeronautical skills in which we must continue to foster cooperation and the integration of thought and operations to generate value for the entire territory, involving, in addition to companies, institutions, regional, financial, training, research, and association bodies. In this sense, I would like to thank, on behalf of all the companies in the Cluster, the Umbria Region and Sviluppumbria, which have ensured their full support for the Cluster's activities from the very beginning".

The companies participating in the Paris Show this year are: AMCo, Angelantoni Test Technologies, CBL Electronics, Co.Me.Ar., Fomap, Fucine Umbre, N.C.M., O.M.A., QFP, Rampini Carlo, SERMS, Sky Eye Systems, Temis, Test Industry, Umbria Aerospace Systems, Umbragroup and VGA.
