One year after the highly successful 2022 edition, UmbriaLibri returns to Terni with "Winter Writings," from 1-3 December, with a preview on 30 November at the municipal library, with Aldo Cazzullo who will present his book "When we were the masters of the world. Rome: the infinite empire."
The Umbria Region event, with organization by Sviluppumbria and the artistic direction of Angelo Mellone, returns to Terni with a schedule of great popular appeal, juxtaposed with writers of great literary quality and evenings of music and words that confirm the experiment already fielded in Perugia: a cultural festival that lasts the whole day, an event built on a flow of appointments offering attendees a treat that lasts an entire weekend.
The event, which will open with a preview on Thursday 30 November at the bct, with a meeting with journalist and writer Aldo Cazzullo, was presented this morning at a press conference by artistic director Mellone, regional councillor for tourism and culture, Paola Agabiti, councillor for culture and tourism of the Municipality of Terni, Michela Bordoni, CEO of Sviluppumbria, Michela Sciurpa and the president of the Fondazione Carit, Luigi Carlini.
"UmbriaLibri is meeting with the public's approval, which is then the only yardstick we have to adopt," said Mellone. "This year we have in Terni a very broad playbill with the intention of continuing what we did last year, that is, to create events that allow us to have a lot of audience and to give a varied offer. The goal is to make UmbriaLibri the cultural event that deals with literature in Umbria, in connection with other events such as Umbria Jazz, the Festival of Two Worlds, Umbria Film Commission. We are very happy with this return to Terni, for which we are confident and optimistic. Many events are already sold out, and this means that the expectation is there and that there is a desire to welcome us. As far as we are concerned, we as UmbriaLibri are looking forward to being welcomed."
“The new edition of UmbriaLibri in Terni was strongly desired and represents with the artistic direction of Angelo Mellone, a cross-section of revitalization and cultural regeneration of the city,” said Councillor Agabiti. "Last year's success, which was hoped for and not taken for granted, has pushed us even more to plan an initiative that can start a new cultural path in the city, opening to this event also its own space in the Italian scene.” Agabiti then stressed that the city's cultural growth path is open to new influences, among which the exhibition organized by the Fondazione Carit stands out. "UmbriaLibri," she added, "in addition to giving space to Umbrian and national publishers to open a comparison that helps them grow and improve, in this edition has aimed at the involvement of children and schools, to introduce our young people to the pleasure of reading by making them aware of the fact that reading makes them more aware and provides the tools to look at the future with eyes that are also different and informed that also give us a rescue to face future challenges as well.” The councilor concluded by thanking all those who, in various ways, contribute to the realization of Umbria Libri and Sviluppumbria for the organization.
"In recent years Umbria Libri has experienced extraordinary growth, thanks in part to the wise and passionate leadership of artistic director Angelo Mellone," stressed Michela Sciurpa, "thus becoming a leading and fully-fledged part of the regional events program. Sviluppumbria took on the welcome commitment of taking care of all operational aspects of the event, assisting the Umbrian publishing houses and the many prestigious guests. The ‘Resident Writer’ project saw Sviluppumbria coordinate those municipalities that enthusiastically joined the initiative, thus helping to promote their territories because it is also through culture that the region is enhanced."
"Terni is honoured to host this event of national relevance, which is very important for the city that, through culture, is embellished," said Councillor Bordoni. "Terni is a city that is responding to these initiatives in a surprising way and the citizenship is welcoming all cultural events that are promoted.”
“The Fondazione Carit," Carlini said, "fully espouses UmbriaLibri, which allowed us to get to know Costantino D'Orazio and to create something important with him that led to the 2 December event, when D'Orazio will preview our art exhibition Amarsi, with 38 works that make an excursus of the history of love from Titian to Banksy. The Foundation recently managed to acquire a Banksy and a work from Titian's workshop. A free exhibition in which the theme of love in all its forms is declined."
