A protocol of understanding has been signed at Sviluppumbria’s headquarters, aimed at promoting the development of an integrated strategy for the Chiascio Basin: Green community in the heart of Umbria. One of its first objectives, as a key element of the strategy, is the creation of a tourist cycle/pedestrian path.
During a press conference presenting the contents and aims of the protocol, the mayors of the municipalities of Valfabbrica (lead municipality), Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi, Bastia Umbra, Bettona and Torgiano signed the agreement.
According to Managing Director of Sviluppumbria Mauro Agostini, “the Chiaschio green community project and the cycle/pedestrian project work toward experiential tourism that seeks not only places, but encounters, experiences and emotions. Sviluppumbria, as is already the case for the Via di Francesco Horseback Trail and other itineraries, is always pleased to offer support to municipalities along the paths and cycle-pedestrian routes of Umbria.”
Councillor Chianella adds, "slow travel means rediscovering the territories, and the roads become pages of a book that allows you to read the territory. Itineraries as a form of sustainable tourism allows tourists to discover villages, and at the same time offers small communities new reasons and economic means to stay on the territory. Cycle and pedestrian routes can counteract the depopulation of small villages."
